Still not Sure?
So how can you tell whether your particular problem can be helped? Well, the first thing to be said is that massage and Bowen are nearly always beneficial. They ease stress, improve blood flow and nervous function and break down adhesions in connective tissue which restrict movement and promote pain.
But everyone is different and every problem is unique to the person who has it. What you’re experiencing may fall into a broad category of conditions which usually can be treated effectively by massage or Bowen Therapy but no practitioner can guarantee results in advance.
My approach is to carefully assess your problem in the first session and take a detailed health history. This is then followed by the work itself. At the end of your visit I will work out a treatment plan with you which will include how many more sessions (if any) are likely to be required to get you where you want to be and things you can do yourself to help things along.
There is no obligation to commit to multiple treatments with me and many of my clients simply book in when they feel the need. However, if you have one of the chronic problems listed above, you can expect to need several appointments to achieve meaningful progress. These sorts of conditions don’t develop overnight (even though their actual onset may appear to be quite sudden) and they usually don’t resolve quickly.
With many problems even when your troublesome symptoms clear up they can return if you're unable to modify the work or leisure activities which caused them in the first place. Or there may be other factors present which you can't control and which make you susceptible to periodic bouts of pain or stiffness. I'm a great believer in self-help so I will suggest things you can do to stay flexible and pain-free as long as possible. Even so, on-going maintenance treatment may be required, maybe once a month, maybe twice a year. Think of these as wellness sessions, an investment in continued good health.
My promise is to always be honest about what I can do to help you.
