Myofascial release is a therapeutic technique which has been around for many years under different names but the term only came into widespread use in the latter half of the 20th century. Essentially, the idea behind it is that muscular pain and/or joint restriction are often associated with disturbances in the proper functioning of our body’s connective tissue, specifically fascia. If you can correct or “release” these disturbances then reduced pain and improved movement should follow.
